The CMRL (Chennai Metro Rail Administration) has announced that stringent legal action will be taken for sticking posters on the pillars in the Metro Stations.

The notification released by CMRL in this regard mentions :
‘The Chennai Metro Rail is meant entirely as a public utility. It is illegal and not allowed to stick posters in the pillars/other places in the Metro Railway Stations or any other advertisements without prior approval from the concerned authorities.

Advertising on Railway properties without prior permission/approval is a punishable offence under the Metro Railway Act 2002, Section 62.

The penalty might be either 6 months imprisonment or a penalty of Rs. 1000 or maybe both.

A notification has already been published in all the major newspapers that posters or banners cannot be kept in Railway Property/Metro Stations without prior approval. However, the sticking of posters still continues!

Police complaints have been registered in the Chennai Meenambakkam and Choolaimedu Police Stations regarding this issue.’

The above notification, released by the CMRL authorities, clearly mentions that prompt and stringent legal action will be taken on the offending agencies sticking posters.
