Carrying their suitcases atleast 300 meters to reach the metro station has become regular for the passengers coming out of the Chennai Central railway station now. The reason for that is the entry point that is expected to link Chennai central railway station and the metro station is yet to  open.

It must be taken into account that atleast 8 elevators built to take the passengers directly from the platforms of the metro station to the Chennai streets haven’t yet started functioning. It is well known that Central metro is Chennai’s largest transit hub and it became fully operational in the month of February.

Point to be noted is 390 m long and 3 deck underground hub was planned with 5 entry points to link Central Railway station, Moore Market Complex or MMC, Park station and Park town station plus 2 metro corridors. Since May 2018, four of the entrances 2 close to MMC and Ripon Buildings and 2 in front of Park and Park Town stations present on the other side of P.H. Road were opened in phases.

Information is the only entry point with an escalator and elevator constructed closer to the central railway station remained closed. The main purpose of this is to make it easy for the commuters arriving in long distance trains to enter the metro station directly. Entry point has been built in front of MMC and the passengers walk to this point. Point here is this entry point is almost 300m away.

It was later mentioned by a Bengaluru resident who has been frequenting Chennai often that lugging the baggage all the way to the entry point is a hassle. She threw light on how carrying many bags down the escalator was more difficult as the escalators were not opened. Many complaints were received from the passengers regarding the metro rail facility availability because no information was available either in the front of Chennai central or at the entry points to the metro station.

The entrance constructed near Ritchie Street is yet to open and hence passengers on their way to Government Estate metro station from Anna Salai rountana are forced to walk all the way to the entry point near Simpsons.

It is now revealed by an official of CMRL that by the end of October the entry point would become operational along with the elevators. The official concluded that the fourth entry point to Government estate and LIC metro stations would be opened soon.
