The bank employees will go on strike on 22nd October as a protest against the proposed merger of banks. 4 Lakhs bank employees will participate in this strike.

A ‘Dharna’ was conducted yesterday (Monday, 14th October) by the bank employees on behalf of the All India Bank Employees Association and Indian Bank Employees federation as a protest against the proposed merger of banks in front of the Chennai Valluvar Kottam. Most bank employees participated in the ‘Dharna’. They pressed their demands shouting slogans to withdraw the proposed bank mergers.

The General Secretary of the All India Bank Employees’ Association C. H. Venkatachalam shared in an interview:

‘The current main problem with the banks is the unrecovered debts of Rs. 1o Lakhs Crores. The attention of the banks will be diverted from the efforts on the recovery of this debt with the proposed merger. This can only lead to further losses for the banks.

So, the banks have to give up the proposed merger. With an appeal to the central government has to review this merger proposal, the bank employees will go on strike throughout India on 22nd October. 4 Lakhs bank employees will be participating in this.

In case the central government fails to take a decision withdrawing the proposed merger even after the above-proposed strike on 22nd October, some important decisions will be taken by us regarding a non-stop strike.
