October could see the smart parking system of GCC

Parking of vehicles has been a huge issue for many motorists in the city of Chennai. This issue won’t be there hereafter in many locations.

It is now said that in this month of October GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation would be launching a smart parking system. Point to be noted here is this would facilitate automated parking of vehicles in 4375 slots in as many as 80 locations in Chennai. It is superb to mention that the motorists would be able to park their vehicles by using the smart parking app of GCC at over 4000 locations in Chennai.

Recently, meeting between Indian PM Mr. Narenda Modi and China president Mr. Xi Jingping took place in Chennai and it caught many eyeballs. It is brought out that this smart parking system that was supposed to be inaugurated on 2nd October got postponed due to this important meeting.

The information collected is the ‘GCC Smart Parking’ App could be downloaded from the Google play store. It is important to note that in the first phase motorists visiting places such as T. Nagar, Anna Nagar, Besant Nagar, Nungambakkam, and Marina Beach would be able to make bookings for the 4375 parking slots by using the above-said app.

An official belonging to GCC expressed his thoughts. He spoke about how only Khader Nawaz Khan Road has been designated premier parking space with a charge of Rs 40 per hour. He mentioned that the road that has got 134 parking lots monitored by 14 CCTV cameras. 

The point is all other parking slots would have a charge of Rs 20 per hour for the cars. It must be taken into account that the parking time would be from 8 am and 11 pm. For the purpose of monitoring the smart parking system in the first phase, the total number of cameras fixed is 460 for covering 80 locations.

An amount of Rs 5 per hour would be charged for the motorcycles as parking charge and the payment from the motorists would be accepted by credit and debit cards.

There would also be smart parking in places such as Pondy Bazaar, Panagal Park, G.N. Chetty Road, Venkatnarayana Road. In addition to these, 13 other roads belonging to T. Nagar would also have smart parking and Rs 20 per hour would be the parking charge for cars. Similarly, in places like Anna Nagar Second Avenue, Third Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Shanthi Colony, Vavin, J.N. Salai and Padi near Saravana Stores etc smart parking would be present.
