Legendary playback singer P.B. Srinivas died in his home in Chennai on Sunday. He had a heart attack at 1 pm and was 82 years old. He is survived by his wife Janaki, a daughter and four sons.
Mr. Srinivas was born in Andhra Pradesh. He began singing professionally in the early 1950s. His last song was for the film ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ in 2010. He was popularly known as the voice behind Gemini Ganesan and Kannada actor Rajkumar.
People from different walks of life have condoled his death. Says a waiter at New Woodlands who served him for 30 years, ‘We didn`t treat him like a customer and he didn`t see us as waiters. He would bring us sweets and talk in Tamil , Telugu and Kannada.’
