A new payment entry system has come into effect in the tourist resort at Mamallapuram.
Until now, no charges were collected from the visitors who saw the ‘butter rock’. However, it is informed that the visit to see the ‘butter rock’ will be charged from today. As per the archaeological Department’s announcement, the charge would be Rs. 40 for the Indian visitors and Rs. 600 for foreign tourists.
Earlier, the charge for visiting the Shore Temple and the Five Rathas had been set at Rs. 40.
Mamallapuram has remained one of the leading historical touring spots in the country. It is worth recalling that the recent meeting/discussions between the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chinese President Xi Jin Ping were conducted here at Mamallapuram on 11th and 12th October. For this occasion, the ancient display items were cleaned and refreshed.
Further, the whole of Mamallapuram was glittering with the electric lights. During this period, all tourists/visitors were barred from visiting the resort primarily due to security reasons.
After the Modi-Xi meet, the restrictions were eased. Subsequently, over 1 Lakh tourists/sight-seers swarmed this tourist resort in a single day!
Apart from the visitors from Tamil Nadu, tourists from other states keep visiting in large numbers. More remarkably, there have been large numbers of foreign tourists as well!
