About 10 years back setting up of an industrial park at Manallur village near Gummidipoondi in Tiruvallur district was conceived is known. The news that has arrived now is industrial park would be set up in this village on 700 acres of land.
The important point to be noted is the SIPCOT or State Industries Promotion Corporation of TN has planned to establish a manufacturing hub at the place that is situated 16 km south of Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. Tiruvallur district administration has already transferred lands for constructing an industrial park to SIPCOT.
In the month of July, public hearing for transferring land was completed. It was pointed out by a senior official that union ministry of environment and forest was approached for the purpose of environmental clearance.
It must be taken into account that the dry poramboeke land parcel has been lying idle even though the state government has given its approval for developing an industrial park for pharmaceutical and chemical industries in the year 2009. Point is in the year 2009 the plan for the industrial park at Manallur was initiated by SIPCOT and it was around this time Sri City was also shaping up.
As per an industries department official it is very clear that the state government does not want to confine it to promote chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Expanding the scope of the park to develop it into a full- fledged manufacturing cluster is now given importance. Information collected is development of the park into manufacturing hub for various industries including automobiles might be carried out
It is worth mentioning that Sri City is spread across more than 7500 acres has multi-product SEZ and electronic manufacturing cluster with 185 leading international companies belonging to as many as 27 countries. In phases, the TN Park that measures one tenth of the size of Sri City would undergo huge expansion in the future. This was as per some sources. In the coming years, more lands would be added to the cluster. It is now said that this new park would add to state of TN industrial push but it would need good branding also.
