It is brought out that 2 committees of MCI or Medical Council of India have cleared the decks for the 6 new government medical colleges in TN.

It is now said that if the union health ministry gives final approval and financial sanction then TN would be able to add up to 900 MBBS seats in the matrix.

The state health minister, Mr. C. Vijaya Baskar, expressed his delight and spoke about how this is probably the largest number of seats that TN has been sanctioned at one go. He revealed that many have given their full efforts and worked hard to get the sanctioning of 6 new government medical colleges in TN.

It must be noted that the state has planned to apply for 3 more medical colleges in places like Krishnagiri, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvallur. The land finalizing process for these colleges has been going on. By this, another 450 medical seats would be added and tertiary care hospitals would be created in the districts.

The superb piece of information is the addition of 6 new medical colleges in TN in places like Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Nilgris, Dindigul, Tirupur, and Namakkal would take the total number of MBBS seats in the government medical colleges to 4150.

It was later pointed out by a senior official that TN must recruit 600 more doctors, 300 staff nurses, paramedics, and administrative staff. He added that it would not be possible to open all the new medical colleges in 2020. He concluded that the funds from the center would be very important. The point that must not be forgotten is in August 2019 cabinet committee on economic affairs had given approval in setting up 75 government medical colleges by 2021-22.

To increase the number of medical colleges, the center has proposed to partially fund for the project. It is worthy to note that TN that has 23 medical colleges proposed medical colleges in 6 un-served areas.
