The spreading and occurrence of dengue fever in Tamil Nadu has shown an alarmingly increasing trend day-by-day!
In this situation, a decision has been taken by the Chennai Metro Corporation to survey and locate areas which are the breeding centers of the Aedes mosquitoes which cause dengue fever and penalize the owners of these areas.
The Chennai Metro Corporation Commissioner Prakash has ordered that a hefty penalty of Rs. 100 to Rs. 10 Lakhs to be imposed on the owners of constructions/buildings which provide for the breeding of the dengue mosquitoes.
The concerned owners must be made aware of the situation and should be urged to clean up the vacant mosquito-breeding facilitating areas. In case the owner fails, the Chennai Metro Corporation will take up the cleaning work and once done, a penalty of double the usual charges.
In this situation, the Chennai Metro Corporation Commissioner Prakash has ordered revising the penalty charges upward for the owners who facilitate dengue mosquito breeding in their areas.
According to this, a notice will be issued the 1st time. A penalty of Rs. 100 will be charged the 2nd time. It will be at Rs. 300 for the 3rd time. In the case of the multi-storeyed apartments, the penalty will be Rs. 500 for the 1st time, Rs. 5000 for the 2nd time and Rs. 15000 for the 3rd time.
For small shops, the penalty will be Rs. 500 for the 1st time, Rs. 2000 for the 2nd time, and Rs. 5000 for the 3rd time.
The schools and colleges with more than 1000 students - penalty will be Rs. 5000 for the 1st time, Rs. 25000 for the 2nd time, and Rs. 50000 for the 3rd time.
The schools/colleges with more than 1000 students - penalty will be Rs. 10000 for the 1st time, Rs. 50000 for the 2nd time, and Rs. 1 Lakh for the 3rd time.
2-star hotels/lodges - Rs. 5000 for the 1st time, Rs. 10000 for the 2nd time, and Rs. 250000 for the 3rd time.
For commercial complexes and government buildings - Rs. 10000 for the 1st time, Rs. 25000 for the 2nd time, and Rs. 1 Lakh for the 3rd time.
In a similar system, the penalties have been separately fixed for buildings within an area of 5000 sq ft, buildings above an area of 5000 sq ft, hospitals with 50 beds and below, and hospital with more than 50 beds.
