Kannan, a philanthropist from Adyar, Chennai Metro City, has constructed a free lodge for the poor outstation patients who are getting treated in the Chennai Metro City.
There are more facilities and advanced technology available in the Chennai Metro City government and private hospitals. So, there has been an increasing trend of more patients from other districts coming over to Chennai Metro City for treatment in these hospitals.
For some complaints, there will be a necessity for the patients, after their surgery, to continue as outpatients for the post-surgery treatment. For such treatments, the outstation people who visit Chennai stay in lodges paying Rs. 300 to Rs. 1000 per day. The poor people, who do not have anywhere nor the money to stay, use the pavements on the roads, bus stations, and railway stations to stay.
Mr. Kannan from Chennai Adyar has come forward to offer some shelter to this category of people. He has constructed a free lodge with 22 beds at the Adyar Canal Bank Road. Arrangements have been made for separate men and women lodging. Further, there is a food shop, called ‘vayalaum vazhvum’ adjacent to this lodge where food is offered fort he lodge stayers at 50% cost.
Kannan shared in this regard:
Though there are advanced facilities and treatment available in Chennai, I have personally witnessed situations where the poor people are hard-pressed to stay and get treated. For this purpose, I have constructed a free lodge in memory of my mother Kanmani. Presently, we are offering free lodging for the outstation cancer patients treated as outpatients. The people who come for testing or registration for admission in the hospitals can also stay here. The patients must be living at least a distance of 50 km from Chennai. We offer free lodging fort eh patients in the government hospitals with a recommendation letter from the concerned doctors.
