Corporation Commissioner: Montessori academic system in 100 schools before next year!

The Chennai Metro City Corporation Commissioner K. Prakash undertook an inspection visit to the Saidapet Girls Higher Secondary School under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Metro City Corporation’s Kodambakkam zone on Wednesday (29th October).

Subsequently, he had a detailed session with the school teachers about the Montessori Academic system being practiced here.

He had a session with the press after the above meet and shared:

There are 281 schools functioning under the Chennai Metro City Corporation at various levels including higher secondary schools, high schools, middle-level schools, and primary schools. Around 90000 students are learning here. Various initiatives have been taken to reduce the dropping out of school, etc. As a part of this, it has been planned to renovate certain infrastructure areas such as the classroom, toilet, teachers’ room, laboratory, and playing ground at a cost of Rs. 170 Crores.

With a view to enhancing the learning skills of the children, the Montessori system has been adopted in 22 schools. This Montessori system will be implemented in 38 more schools before December.

In continuation, the Montessori system will be implemented in 100 schools before the end of the academic year 2020-21.

During the Corporation Commissioner’s inspection schedule, the Chennai Metro City Assistant Commissioner (Education) Kumaravel Pandian and other officials were also present.
