Libraries set up in TNSCB tenements now

These days with people showing more interests in their mobile phones and social media etc, reading books has taken a back seat. Many youngsters present now might not know about Sidney Seldon or Tamil novelist Kalki etc.

Residents belonging to TNSCB tenements could feel happy now regarding books because in the TNSCB tenements over the last 2 days many libraries were set up by the Directorate of Public Libraries. To quench their thirst for knowledge, residents here would be able to choose hundreds of books from these libraries.

The superb piece of information is as of now libraries have been set up in places like Perumbakkam, Navalur and Gudapakkam etc. Soon, libraries would be making their presence felt in other tenements also.

According to L. Thilaka, district library officer, Tiruvallur, the state government has instructed to start libraries in all the TNSCB settlements in TN.  She hinted about how one library would be opened at the All India Radio tenements in north Chennai and how orders have been expected. For setting up libraries, TNSCB has provided an entire house in each resettlement area.

The number of books available in each library is 500 now and it would be increased depending on their demand. It must be noted that the types of books the TNSCB residents require would be given importance.

It was later brought out by Mr. Janarthanan, in-charge of library at Gudappakkam that the task of increasing the membership has been given to the librarians. Point is one time of Rs 20 has to be paid and annual renewal fee is Rs 5. He was happy regarding some women in the TNSCB tenements who have started visiting the library. He concluded that awareness about the libraries would be carried out so that more people could utilize the libraries.

District library officer, Tiruvallur, L. Thilaka, then spoke about how now the library functions between 8 am to 11am and how the time would be extended when more members visit the library. More number of books would be available in the library in the future plus a computer would also be available for the people.

A resident of Perumbakkam expressed her thoughts and spoke but how she lived in Thousand Lights till 2017 and how she liked the Connemara library. She was unhappy that she was not able to get books after shifting to Perumbakkam. It was later mentioned by another resident that poor lighting has made accessing the library difficult.
