The pot ridden roads and waterlogging are the two major issues for the residents of Velachery now.
The NE monsoon has set in TN more than 10 days back and it has brought huge relief with water levels increasing in dams and lakes. It is now said that the daily commuters are finding their lives difficult in Velachery due to the above-mentioned issues like pot ridden roads and waterlogging.
After the rains, the interiors belonging to Velachery were the first to get waterlogged. It is shocking to mention that for more than 5 years many appeals have been made to the GCC about water stagnation and still this issue is present in Velachery. The worst affected places in Velachery are Ram Nagar North Extension Second Street, First Cross Street, Venkateswara Street, MGR Nagar, Kalki Nagar Main Road.
It was later brought out by a resident of Velachery that every time after the rains the sewage and garbage overflow in these streets causing huge issues for the people. It must be noted that sludge mixed with rain water enters the houses and into the sumps also. Despite the officials giving a guarantee that it would be better, the same issue was present even last week after the rains. The resident spoke about how the residents are worried about the coming months of rains.
It must be taken into account that the Velachery Main Road outside the Phoenix Market city gets waterlogged even after intermittent rains and last week motorists struggled to wade through the waterlogged roads. A motorist mentioned that it took more than hour to cross the arterial stretch (connecting Velachery with Guindy and Saidapet). Another resident pointed out how the interior roads are unattended for a long time while the corporate officials pump out rainwater from the main roads in Velachery.
