Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC has earned an amount of Rs 95 lakhs this year by selling the piles of scrap present on the rooftops and around buildings in Chennai city. It must be noted that in the last 2 months, GCC got Rs 50 lakhs by selling the scrap.

Information is health officers and sanitary staffs climb the tallest towers and visit the buildings in the neighborhood to check for the presence of habitats for dengue causing Aedes mosquitoes.

It is shocking to note that one in every three houses in Chennai had scrap piled up. This was as per the estimate of the public health officials.

Aedes mosquitoes breed by means of water that is stagnated in the empty paint tins, packaging items, cartons, tires, cups, etc. As per Dr. K. Kolandaswamy, director of public health, Chennai has so been hoarding so much scrap. He added that most people do not bother to clean their homes and offices and it creates lots of issues for the people around. He threw light on how in the last 3 months Chennai, Thiruvallur, and Kancheepuram had the highest number of dengue fever cases in TN.

The civic body identified the potential dengue spots in the city of Chennai and mosquitoes that carried the virus were tested.

Deputy health commissioner, Mr. Madhusudhan Reddy explained how fogging was carried out and people were asked to clean their campus. Later the violators were fined by the officials for not obeying the orders as the dengue cases increased.
