The central Ministry for Food Safety and Quality Control has issued a circular.

In this circular, it is mentioned that there are canteens operating in schools which provide/sell food items including snacks are sold. It is established and registered as a complaint that mostly, snack items are sold in huge quantities by these canteens.

It has further informed that the sales of these snacks a,d harmful  food items from these canteens are barred as the ministry clearly mentioned that these items, rich in fats, spice, and salt or sweet, are extremely harmful to the health of the children

The circular states that the sales of the snack items must be barred in the 50 metres surrounding areas of the schools.

The ministry informed that apart from the banned snack items, there should be no advertisement boards or wall-posters about the snack items should not be allowed and must be removed. The ministry has informed that this has been amply emphasised to the school administrations.

It has further advised that separate squad must be formed by the school administration to check what items are sold and are eaten by the students and whether they are of good quality and review and analyse.

The ministry has mentioned in the circular that as a process of confirming the implementation of the above-recommended activities, reports must be submitted confirming the same by the school administration.
