Government hikes fixed deposits for girl child

Tamil Nadu government has hiked fixed deposits for girl children under the girl child protection scheme from the existing Rs 22,200 to Rs 50,000.
Tamil Nadu Chief minister Ms.Jayalalithaa said."Unlike the previous term of 20 years, the deposited amount with interest will be released to the girl after she attains 18 years,This would enable the child to pursue higher education or to meet marriage expenses. In case of families with two girl children and no male child in the family, an initial sum of Rs 25,000 will be deposited for each girl child".
