An awareness program about the loss of lives that has occurred due to the flying of kites with the extremely harmful ‘Manja’ threads was conducted at the New Washermanpet Police Station Social Welfare meeting.
Assistant commissioner Subbulakshmi presided over the program. Members of traders’ associations, public and children participated in this awareness programs.
The Assistant Commissioner explained in detail about the tragic harms caused by flying kites with Manja threads and the loss of lives. She added:
‘Manja threads must not be sold in shops. It should not be hoarded anywhere as well. Stringent action will be taken on the shop owners violating this and selling Manja to the extent they would be imprisoned with a non-bailable offense. Kids should not fly kites on the building/house terraces.
The parents must ensure that their children do not fly kites, In case it is still done, action will be taken on the parents!
