For so many years, in Chennai, private schools were considered as the best and the corporation schools in Chennai were not considered highly. The lack of infrastructure in these corporation schools was the reason behind why many parents choose private schools over the corporation schools for their children’s education. This might change in the future.
It is now said that the work on the makeover of as many as 281 corporation schools is expected to increase the number of students by attracting more school students. An amount of Rs 200 crores would be spent to make these corporation schools on par with some of the top private schools in Chennai. By this, the corporation schools in Chennai would have world class infrastructure and this would attract lots of parents. It is amazing to mention that as many as28 corporation schools have already commissioned smart classrooms. It is revealed that all the 281 corporation schools would get smart classrooms soon. This was according to Mr. V. Muniyan, Chennai corporation assistant education officer. He was hopeful that the number of students would increase from the current 85,000 to as high as 1.3lakhs.
It is important to mention here that the residents of areas like Rotary Nagar, Neelam Badshah Durgah, Kailasapuram, Sivarajapuram etc complained about many students being out of their schools and they were hoping for the Chennai Corporation to take the initiative to enrol such children.
It must not be forgotten that a student aged 12 secured admissions in the class 7 in a Chennai Corporation School or CCS in Triplicane in Chennai. This happened in the middle of the year as the student had to drop out of the private school as her mother was unable to pay the school fees. It is said that this student got more interest in studies after joining the CCS. In the past few years, many students have started joining CCS.
A student who topped Anna University engineering ranking in 2019 expressed his thoughts about studying in CCS. He spoke about how after joining CCS he got more marks in plus 2 and how the smart classrooms and library were useful to him to get high marks.
