Travelling on the footboards in the buses has been responsible for many accidents in the past are well known.
Metropolitan Transport Corporation or MTC has cancelled few bus services and this has been creating issues for the students living in the western suburbs of Chennai. As a result, the students now travel on the footboards of the overcrowded buses to reach the core places in Chennai city.
The bus route B70 (Pattabiram to Guindy) is an important one for many students as this route links more than half a dozen schools as well as colleges like Chellamal College for Women, Hindu College, TI School and Vivekandandha School etc. It was later brought out by a social activist named Mr. Sadagopan that without prior information that buses operated along the route number B70 were stopped last week. It must be noted that this bus route was introduced 14 years ago and had 14 services along this route.
A student studying in CIPET, Guindy spoke about how there was no option other than getting the bus at the Pattabiram bus terminus at 7am and 7:15 am. He added that there was a gap of 30 minutes for the next bus to his destination. Point to be noted is not only students but also the office goers were affected due to sudden cut in the B70 bus service that connects western suburbs with 2 industrial estates (Ambattur and Guindy) plus few hospitals. The important piece of information is the passengers are now paying Rs 45 to Rs 50 instead of Rs 25 as they have t take 2 or 3 buses to reach their places of destination.
It must be taken into account that bus service 27H (Avadi to Anna Square) was renumbered as 40H but these bus services were also irregular. The passengers do not have any idea about the revised schedule of MTC buses as the website of MTC is under construction and no notices have been put at the bus depots and bus terminals etc. The point is many students studying in Loyola College and Presidency College travel by this bus route and now they depend on share autos etc.
