Mr Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan would soon play an important role in school education in the state of TN. How?
It is important to note that this 2002 batch IAS officer would be stationed at the DPI campus and would look after directorates of school, elementary education and matriculation schools.
The sensational piece of information is on Thursday, 14th November 2019, the TN government-appointed IAS officer, Mr Sigy Thomas vaidhyan as the commissioner of school education. This has been considered as a significant development now.
According to a senior official, the directorates are hitherto headed by the officials promoted from the school education department. He explained about how with the number of reforms being introduced such as new syllabus etc the government felt the need to appoint a cadre officer to coordinate three directorates for better monitoring and for improving the quality of education.
The information collected is the directorates would report to the commissioner. He then shed light on how the neighboring states appoint commissioners in the rank of IAS for handling the regulatory framework and quality management.
It must be taken into consideration that successive governments in the past appointed only the promoters of the education department at the helm of affairs. The important point to be noted is commissioner for school education is a cadre post. On Thursday, the government of TN also transferred collectors of Villupuram, Virudhunagar, Thanjavur.
Mr. A. Annadurai, Thanjavur collector has been transferred as Villupuram collector and Mr. L. Subramaniam who was holding the post of collector of Villupuram has been posted as secretary of state election commission. It must be noted that Mr. Palaniswamy who was holding the post of election commission has been posted as the director of town panchayats and Mr. Govinda Rao would be the new collector for the district of Thanjavur.
