At a time when Chennai residents are worried about the fever and dengue etc affecting them, here comes an important piece of news.
It is now said that less number of people with fever now visits the government hospitals for treatment. It must be noted that there is also significant drip in the number of persons testing positive for dengue. There has been slight decrease in the incidence of dengue in the children but not much decline in fever among the paediatric population.
As per a paediatrician at a government hospital, many school kids with different types of viral fever and respiratory infections still come to the hospitals. The weather as well as the presence of different kinds of viruses has been cited as the reasons for this.
Since the last week of October, the number of fever cases has been reduced by atleast half and this was as per the dean of RGGGH, Dr. Jayanthi. She added that as of now her hospital has 113 inpatient undergoing treatment for fever and about 20 who have been tested positive for dengue. She highlighted that the number of patients reporting with fever at the outpatient unit have also come down.
According to the dean of Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital or KMCH, Dr. P. Vasanthamani, generally the hospital had 180 patients getting admitted for fever in a day. Presently, KMCH has 80 inpatients for treatment of fever and 10 patients who have tested positive for dengue and it included both adults as well as paediatric cases. In the last 15 days, the cases have reduced.
It is worthy to note that at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children 150 children were admitted for fever and 48 children with dengue. The hospital authority revealed that the hospital 2 weeks back got around 230 to 240 patients with fever.
