The 321 bus depots present in the state of Tamil Nadu and the 16 bus depots in Chennai city would soon get modernized. This has been decided by the transport department now.
It is now said that the transport department has waken-up to the discomfort faced by the staffs of the state transport corporations. One important piece of information is at all the bus depots, safety audits would be conducted.
The bus depots in the city of Chennai that were built several years back were in poor condition and did not have basic amenities such as toilet facilities, clean canteens and properly marked bus bays. This was as per an office-bearer of the Labour Progressive Federation.
Various works that would be taking place in the bus depots are the construction of separate restrooms, provision of amenities, installation of concrete stoppers to prevent vehicles from over speeding and crashing. It is important to note that the walls would be painted and separate bus bays would be marked for carrying out the repair works.
Under Smart City Mission, as many as 16 bus depots would get a makeover or modernise and in the safety audit the stability of the depots were also studied.
