Union cabinet has granted the dearness allowance (DA) hike of eight per cent to the Central government employees in view of the increase in the consumer price index (CPI) for the industrial workers on Thursday.
The hike has been granted over the existing rate of 72 per cent. The decision benefits about 50 lakh employees and 30 lakh pensioners of the Central government.
Thus, the combined impact on the exchequer on account of both hikes would be of the order of Rs8,629.20 crore per annum and Rs. 1,0067.36 crore in the financial year 2013-14.
