Separated from the erstwhile Kanchipuram district, the new 37th district of the state of Tamilnadu, Chengalpattu District is born today (Friday, 29th November).
In a function organised at the village Vennpakkam, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palniswamy inaugurated the start of the administrative activities of the new Chengalpattu district. The Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and other ministers participated in the event.
The Taluks of Tambaram, Pallavaram. Madhuranthagam, Thirupporur, Cheyyur, Vandalur (new), and Thirukkazhukkundram will administratively operate under this new Chengalpattu district.
Further, 3 revenue zones of Madhurathagam, Tambaram, and Chengalpattu will function.
The new Chengalpattu District has 6 Legislative Assembly Constituencies of Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Pallavaram, Madhuranthagam, Cheyyur, and Thirupprour.
Half of the parliamentary constituencies of Sriperumpudhur and Kanchipuram also come under the domain of Chengalpattu District.
