State Election Commission Officer: local elections on 27th and 30th December!

On the basis of the promise given by the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission, the dates for the local elections in Tamil Nadu have been released today (Monday, 2nd December) at 10,00 AM.

In a press meet, the state election commissioner Palainswamy shared:

‘The local elections in Tamil Nadu will be conducted in 2 phases on 27th and 30th December.

The election details announcement will be released on 6th December.

The nomination filing will commence on this day, 6th December itself.

The last day for filing nomination to contest in the local elections is 13th December. The scrutiny of the nominations is scheduled on 16th December. The date for withdrawing nomination is on 18th December.

Polling will commence at 7.00 AM and will conclude at 5.00 PM.

Counting of votes will commence at 8.00 AM on 2nd January 2020.

The village Panchayat elections will be conducted as usual by polling chits. For the local Panchayat administration, 4 colours of voting chits will be used. 870 election officers and 16840 election supervisors are to be deployed for this election.

The voters’ list is being prepared jointly with the National Information Centre.

In the 1st Phase of the local elections, 1.64 Crores persons will be voting. In the 2nd Phase, 1.67 Crores people will vote. The priority for allotting symbols will be given to the political parties which have registered but not yet approved.

The election activities will be completed by 4th January 2020. The successfully elected ward members and village members will assume their posts on 6th January 2020. The indirect election for the posts of the district Panchayat President and Vice-president is scheduled on 11th January 2020.

As for the newly formed districts, as the Supreme Court Order is already on hand, the usual procedure will be adopted for the elections.

In case re-fixing of the ward formation in the new district is required, it will be organised after the elections. In case the election expense details are not furnished within 30 days, the concerned candidate cannot participate in the local elections for the next 3 years.

Due to administrative reasons, the election dates for the major city corporations, city corporations, and Panchayats have not been announced yet. They will be announced later.’
