Foam and froth, in large quantities, spewed out in the sea in the location where the Adyar River joins the sea over the last 6 days.
This foam was seen from Pattinappakkam area to Thiruvanmiyur Beach!
Subsequently, the officials of the Pollution Control Board collected samples at a distance of 500 metres where Adyar River joins the sea and another sample at 1 km distance for detailed analysis.
At the end of the test, it was established the harmful toxic materials such as phosphates, ammonia, nitrate, TDS, oil, grease, etc., which can heavily pollute the sea.
The pollution control board’s officials explained that the main reason was that effluents from factories were let out into the nearby river areas to mix.
The officials explained further that several notifications had been sent to the Chennai Metro City Corporation Officials regarding this issue but this has been still prevalent. Now, stringent monitoring has been taken up to watch all the factories in the areas.
