For the sake of passengers travel and comfort, MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation has been taking huge efforts.
It is known that MTC has completed trial run of first electric bus on the A1 bus route. This route is between Thiruvanmiyur and Central railway station in Chennai.
The news that has come out now is MTC has started operating its second electric bus in Chennai city. It must be noted that this second electric bus would cover longer distance.
The trial run of the first electric bus took place for a time of 3 months and just last week the second electric bus was delivered by Ashok Leyland. This was according to a senior official belonging to MTC.
To test the performance of the battery, the electric bus is being operated on a longer route. Important information collected is the new electric bus was operated in a circular route covering 3 routes beginning from Broadway.
It is important to note that the a/c electric bus was operated with the first leg beginning from Broadway to Puratchi Thalaivar MGR bus terminus in Koyambedu (bus no 15 S), second leg from Koyambedu to Siruseri (bus no 570 S), and last leg from Siruseri to Broadway (bus no 102).
The external feature of the new electric bus is similar to that of the first electric bus but differs in the technical specification. The battery swap technology present in the first electric bus has been replaced by the chargeable battery in the second one.
Superb point here is the second electric bus with chargeable battery would run for a minimum of 200 kms on a single charge whereas the first electric bus would run for just 40 kms. It is well known that the first electric bus was flagged off in the month of August by the chief minister of TN.
