On the New Year day, Chennai city received intense spells of rains and surprised many residents.
The rains received by Chennai city yesterday, 1st January, has been regarded as one of the most intense spells of rains in the past few weeks. On Wednesday, Chennai city received 1.78 cm of rains and the suburbs received 2.83 cms of rains.
In the coming days also, the weathermen have predicted similar spells of rains in Chennai. The sky is likely to be generally cloudy and light to moderate rains is likely to occur in some places. This was confirmed by the meteorological department. On Wednesday morning, most parts belonging to Chennai city got quick and heavy rains. The monsoon has extended now and the weather conditions continue to be conducive for the rains.
On the first day of January itself, Chennai got the normal rains of 26 mm. This was mentioned by a weather blogger, Mr Pradeep John. He revealed that last time Chennai received rains on the New Year day was in the year 2012. Till 9th of January, there would be rains in Chennai and after that, the rains would reduce.
In places like Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam, the maximum temperature was 28.3 degrees Celsius and 27.6 degrees Celsius respectively. During the day, this time of the year, Chennai city experiences usually around 30 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, the temperature of the day would be around 29 degrees Celsius.
Places such as MR received 4 cm rains, Kolapakkam and airport received 3 cms rains and other places like Tambaram, Chengalpet and Sriperumbudur received 1 cm of rains on Wednesday.
