Chennai Corporation to renovate 50-year-old bridges

In North Chennai, there are three bridges that are around 50 years old.

The news that has come out is these bridges would be renovated at a cost of Rs 14 crores by the Corporation of Chennai.

Point is the crucial connections in North Chennai are Parthasarathy Bridge at Vijayaraghavulu road in old washermanpet, Vaidyanathan bridge of Tondiarpet and the bridge across Captain Cotton canal in Meenambal Road in MKB Nagar. These three bridges would be strengthened soon.

An amount of Rs 8.02 crores would be used for the renovation of Parthasarathy Bridge and Rs 1.78 crores would be used for renovation of Captain Cotton Canal Bridge. For the renovation of Vaidyanathan Bridge, an amount of Rs 4.76 crores would be spent by the corporation of Chennai.

These bridges have undergone wear and tear over a time of around 50 years and in order to remain strong for another 50 years, these bridges need retrofitting. This was according to some officials of Chennai Corporation.

He spoke about how the drawings and other important documents about these bridges are not available now as these bridges are around 50 years old. He concluded that Non-Destructive Testing to check for distresses that the bridges have undergone was conducted.
