There are many households present along the Cooum and Adyar River. The deputy chief minister of TN and state housing minister Mr. O. Paneerselvam mentioned that all the families along Cooum and Adyar River would be shifted to Perumbakkam and Okkiyam Thoraipakkam.

The deputy chief minster later spoke about how several families in Sathyavanimuthu Nagar and in other areas along the rivers have been shifted to Perumbakkam. Along the Cooum River in Chennai city, there were more than 11500 families and out of these 10740 families are shifted to Perumbakkam and to other places like Okkiam Thoraipakkam etc.  It must not be forgotten that during 2015 floods 9000 families along the banks of Adyar River were affected badly and 4000 families have been shifted to Perumbakkam .

Cooum River Restoration project was taken up by CRRT and as a part of this project in the month of December 2019 eviction of families began is well known. There were some protests also. It must be taken into account that more than 2000 families from Sathyavanimuthu Nagar had agreed to shirt to Perumbakkam and many of them settled in the new apartments. Some time till April has been given to those who haven’t shifted due to examinations of their children’s.

The deputy chief minister Mr. O. Paneerselvam later threw light on the presence of various facilities such as schools, colleges, hospitals, parks, playgrounds, PHCs etc. He added that the people who have shifted to Perumbakkam and Okkiyam Thoraipakkam would have these facilities.
