For making the last mile connectivity easier for the commuters, CMRL has been doing many things!!

It is now revealed that boarding an MTC bus to reach the destination after travelling the entire metro rail network would be easy.

The Chennai city corporation has been requested by the CMRL to shift the existing bus shelters near the entrances of atleast 8 metro stations including airport and proposed new bus stops in atleast 5 metro stations including Guindy metro.

As per an official belonging to CMRL, it is clear that CMRL had written and discussed with city corporation officials regarding shifting of existing bus stops closer to the metro stations and it would be done soon. Various metro stations near which the bus shelters would be shifted are Thousand Lights, Airport, Pachaiappa College, Government Estate, LIC, Teynampet and Ekkattuthangal.

The important point is CMRL had asked for stopping of buses plying on certain routes closer to the Government Estate metro station. The present bus stop at the airport would be shifted closer to the pedestrian subway to link suburban services with the metro station.

In future, new bus shelters might be set up closer to metro stations like Guindy, Meenambakkam, Nanganallur etc. The new shelter has been proposed for the mofussil buses at the Guindy metro station and this is closer to the suburban station is known. To link major hubs like CMBT, Central railway station, Egmore railway station, airport etc, both the corridors and 32 metro stations along 45 km phase-1 were planned closer to the bus shelters.
