Chennai Metro City wears a deserted look!

With the successive Pongal holidays, the Chennai Metro City wears a totally deserted look with far less public on the roads and public utilities! As compared to usual, a far lesser number of vehicles operate on the roads!

Even the number of buses operated by the Chennai Metro Transport Corporation was far less than on normal days. Very few buses operate on the routes. Even the number of 2-wheelers plying on the road is far lesser! Most of the shops also remain closed! Very few eateries/hotels, cafeterias, and tea-shops are open and functioning.

As the Book Fair is in progress in Nandanam and the Tourism Fair is in Island Grounds, these 2 locations are somewhat crowded with visitors. Apart from a few specific suburban localities, most of the recently-constructed residential accommodation complexes are apparently unoccupied with no human movements!

It shows that the majority of the residents of the Chennai Metro City are people from different another place (districts, other states/cities). Especially, there is a large chunk of Chennai residents who moved from the southern districts. Though they are considering Chennai as their living place, it has been a regular habit for them to visit their native places for celebrating important festivals such as Pongal and Deepavali. Especially, as there are 4 or 5 successive holidays during the Pongal festive season, these Chennai residents make their visit without fail!

Apart from this, even the Chennai residents have taken this opportunity to go to other places including tourist spots – hence, the crowd in the open areas in the city has dwindled to a great extent!

As the holidays run-up to Sunday (19th January) it can be expected that the public will start returning to Chennai from Monday onwards for the Chennai Metro City to resume with its usual hustle and bustle!
