It is well known that at the YMCA grounds in Nandanam, Chennai there is a book fair going on and many people have been coming to this book fair.
On Sunday, 19th January 2019, all roads led to this 43rd book fair in Nandanam and more than one lakh people came to this book fair. Through the weekend, this book fair organized by BAPASI or Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India fair saw a large number of people.
This is Pongal season and the kids are having holidays now is known. It is now said that many families came to the book fair along with their kids. Many came to buy books for their children.
A parent revealed not only storybooks in English and Tamil were purchased but also comics, activity and puzzle books etc. In this 2020, the books translated in Tamil were most sought after by those who came to the book fair.
Mr Vijay Prakash of Tamil Annai Publishers mentioned that volumes of Sherlock Holmes translated to Tamil were sold. Books like Sapiens written by Yuan Noah Harari in Tamil were also purchased by many. A short film festival stole many hearts at this book fair and this is the first time this short film festival has been hosted by book fair.
In the last 10 days, nearly 55 short films and 2 documentary films were screened for the visitors here. It was later pointed out by Mr Arun Prakash organiser of this festival that aspiring filmmakers were asked to submit short films with a social message. Many people liked these short films.
This year saw more people visiting the book fair with interest that the previous year. This was as per Mr Shanmugam, president BAPASI. Ever since the book fair began, more than 10 lakhs people have visited the book fair.
