In places like T. Nagar and Besant Nagar, officials have been finding it difficult to regulate the parking. It must be taken into account that the command and control centre at Ripon buildings has not been able to use the facility to regulate parking in places like T, Nagar. The presence of glitches has made the officials not able to take any action against the violators.
The officials feel that they would be punishing innocent people if the system is used in penalising parking violators. The sources have mentioned that the system is now used manually and even after inauguration the automated parking management system was not automated. To help the motorists book their parking slots by using their mobile app and to ease congestion, parking management system was developed.
To cover as many as 12500 parking slots in places like T. Nagar, Besant Nagar, Marina Beach, Purasawalkam and Anna Nagar, parking management system was originally proposed is known. On Friday, Chennai city commissioner, Mr. G. Prakash, hinted that Chennai city would get 1.5 lakhs parking slots to ease the traffic congestion. It is known that Chennai is the first Indian city to implement area wide parking management system unlike a stretch based model adopted conventionally.
