In the Tiruvallur district on Sunday, gram sabha meeting took place and in this meeting many resolutions namely opposition to class 5 and board examinations, de-silting water bodies and making village open defecation free etc were passed.
Recently, elections to the rural bodies took place and it is now said that it was the first gram sabha meeting after the representatives were elected. A resolution was taken against the board examinations for classes 5 and 8 at the Sirupuzhal pettai village panchayat.
Union councillor, Mr. Ravikumar was of the view that the board exams would be a huge burden for the students for these classes. Therefore, a resolution was passed against this. He then shed light on how improvement of bus services and the presence of adequate staffs at PHCs were important.
It was brought out by Mr. Loganathan, ward member that a resolution was taken against Amma drinking water plant. From Pettykuppam, Amma water supplied across the state is drawn. He spoke about how the groundwater that was earlier available at 40 feet had gone down to 240 feet and how that has affected agriculture.
The villagers were led by Mr. Gajendran president of Light House kuppam to pass a resolution seeking building of gyrones at the estuary to the Pulicat Lake to keep it open throughout the year. The lack of tidal action has been causing the lake to silt-up and the lake needs urgent action.
