In the month of February in the year 2019, the breakfast scheme run by Akshaya Patra Foundation was inaugurated by the governor is known.
For the construction of centralized kitchen and other infrastructure needed to provide breakfast through the above-said foundation to as many as 12000 students studying in the corporation schools in Chennai, financial assistance of amount of Rs 2 crores was released from the discretionary grants of governor now.
The GCC had given permission to set up a centralized kitchen in Greams Road in Chennai. This was done for the sake of expansion. For serving the underprivileged children belonging to TN, Raj Bhavan came forward to donate an amount of Rs 5 crores. It also signed MoU with the Akshaya Patra Foundation.
The first instalment of the donation was handed over to Mr Kondarama Das, vice-president of the Akshaya Patra Foundation by the Governor Mr Banwarilal Purohit.
In a phased manner, the remaining amount would be released and it is now brought out that the facility would be completed in another 6 months of time. Established in the year 2000, Akshaya Patra Foundation is a non-profit organisation in India that is involved in the running of school lunch programme across India.
