Next to the metro stations across the Chennai city, e-toilets would be set up and this was according to GCC. It was later revealed by an official of CMRL that the corporation had received a nod from the metro to set up these e-toilets in station premises. Busy commuters mainly women and kids would be benefited by these e-toilets.
It is now said that the commuters don’t always n eed to enter metro stations but could utilize toilet facilities outside also. For the construction of these e-toilets, the civic body has planned to seek CSR funds also.
The funds from the corporation would be used initially and estimates are being prepared now. This was according to an official belonging to the works department. The CSR funds would be used partially only. For the operation as well as for the maintenance of these e-toilets, a contractor would be roped for a contract time of 3 years.
It is known that in the Chennai city, about 155 toilet complexes would come with 84 women-only toilets. To set up as many as 150 ‘SHE’ toilets, tenders have been floated under Nirbaya funds. Safe Zone Clusters (vulnerable localities where women find distress) or SZC and busy spots earmarked by the corporation of Chennai would have these women-only toilets.
