The states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka had less milk supply and the tankers have been lying idle. They have come to help the Chennai residents now.
The latest news is the officials belonging to Aavin have revealed that the 4 day strike of milk tankers in Vellore would not cause any impact on the milk supply to Chennai city. The point is as many as 20 tankers have been procured from Karnataka and 10 from AP for supplying milk from district unions including Vellore to Chennai city. Totally there are 123 tankers in use and out of those Aavin owns 59 tankers. Important information is of the rest 64 tankers as many as 30 were procured from states like AP, Karnataka and rest 34 were private tankers.
The Chennai city has got enough milk stocks to tide over the milk crisis and hence there would not be any milk shortage in Chennai. This was as per some sources. The officials explained how every day 32 lakh litres of milk is being procured and 24 litres is sold locally. They brought out that of the remaining 8 lakh litres 6 lakh litres get converted to skim milk powder and 2 lakh litres is made available daily.
