The buttermilk served by the road in Chromepet by Shree Gayathri Trust brings relief to all to visit the Trust’s neer moru pandal. Started by G. Raghavan in 1983, the Trust helped transport and cremate unidentified bodies, but then started serving buttermilk for travelers. The drink is garnished with curry leaves, aesofetida, ginger and coriander and is given throughout the month of May between 10.30am and 3pm.

‘(We) buy about 50 litres of milk everyday which is, in turn, fermented and churned in an oldage home in Perungalathur… We get municipality water from Palar river. We spend a total of Rs 3000 everyday… With the expenses managed by donors, the pandal will also serve curd rice on auspicious days’, says Mr. Raghavan.
