During the question hour in the Legislative Assembly, the MLA from Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar constituency, Thayagam Kavi (DMK) raised the question:
There are 925 family ration card holders in Ward No, 75 in the Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar constituency, SS Puram ‘B’ section. These residents need to go to the Fair Price Shop located in Egmore to buy their ration items. So, there is an urgent need for setting up a new Fair Price Shop here.
For this, Minister Sellur Raju replied it is very difficult nowadays to get a place to set up a fair price shop in Chennai Metro City! Rents are also very high! While considering building a new one, the cost of the land is also quite high! There are issues in setting up a new fair price shop. Also, action is being initiated to introduce mobile ration shops in places where it has been difficult to set up new fair price shops!
So, in this regard, after a thorough review, a decision will be taken either on setting up a new fair price shop or introducing mobile ration shop in this locality.
Velacherry constituency MLA Vaagai Chandrasekhar (DMK) - Almost a year has passed since 3 new rations shops were constructed in Velacherry but they are yet to start functioning!
Minister Sellur Raju - A review will be made with the concerned section and immediate action will be taken on this.
