The public has put up a demand that following the acute reduction in number of passengers onn Tejas Express trains, action should be taken for Tejas trains to stop at important Railway Stations.
Tejas trains, manufactured at the Chennai Integral Coach Factory, have been inoperation since last year. These trains have 23 Coaches, 18 air-conditioned coaches with seats, 2 1st Class coaches, and 3 diesel generator coaches,
The Backside of each seat has video screen, automatic tea/coffee vending machines, GPS facility, LED lamps, automatic doors both inside and outside the coaches, and small dining-desks of foldable type concealed in the seat handles are other features Further cell-phone chargers, touch-sensitive switches for LED lamps on the toilet mirrors, and 22 other features are available. 56 passengers can travel in the 1st Class coaches, and 78 passengers can travel in coaches with seats.
The deluxe train starts from Chennai Egmore at 6.00 AM< reaches Madurai at 12.30 PM. The same train start from Madurai at 3.00 PM and reaches Egmore by 9.30 PM.
This train stops only at 2 stations - Trichy and Kodaikkanal Road. Tejas is operated on all days except Thursdays, The train moves at 110 kmph covers the Chanjni-Madurai distance in 6 hours 30 minutes.
The chair-car fare for Chennai-Madurai is Rs. 895. The fare for 1st Class deluxe coach is Rs. 1940. Though the cost is higer, as the train is fast, the passengers were excited initially and travelled in this Tejas Express.
However, gradually, the number of passengers reduced. As the train starting from Egmpre stops only at Trichy and it does not stop at stations like Tambaram, Chingleput, and Villupuram. The passengers at these stations cannot travel in this train! As such, the number of passengers has been declining gradually!
As such there is scope for a substantial increase in number of passengers, ithe train stops Dinidigul, Ariyalur, Villupuram, Chingleput, Tambaram, Guindy, and Mambalam stations.
Further, when the demand was made that this train should stop at Tambaram, though Southern Railway accepted the demand. it seems to be awaiting approval from the central government.
The train passenger observe that if tejas express stops at important stations, there is scope for increase in the number of passengers.
Further, in one of the Tejas Express trains operated last week, only a single passenger had travelled in a coach!
