5,759 polling booths have been set up in Chennai Metro City for the local elections.
An ‘All-Party-Meeting’ regarding this is scheduled to be conducted on 2nd March.
Tamil Nadu State Election Commission is presently engaged in the organising of Panchayat and local administration elections in the 9 newly formed districts.
It has been emphasised to expedite that ward-wise redrafting of voters list in 9 districts to be completed quickly.
Subsequently, the State Election Commission has sent circulars to all the District Collectors to prepare the draft polling booth list as per the final voters’ list released on 14th February by the Election Commission.
Accordingly, the draft voters’ list was released in all the districts yesterday (Wednesday, 26th February). Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Prakash released the draft voter’ list in Chennai Metro City.
5,759 polling booths are to be set up in Chennai Metro City as per the final draft voters’ list. Out of these, 135 polling booths are for men. 135 polling booths are for women.
A total of 5,489 polling booths is to be set up for both men and women.
This list of polling booths is being displayed on notice boards for public view in all the offices Ripon Building, GCC regional Offices, etc.
Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Prakash shared regarding this:
In the 200 wards under 15 regions under the jurisdiction of GCC, 5,759 polling booths have been set up. An ‘All-Party-Meeting’ is scheduled to be conducted in this regard on 2nd March to receive feedback and suggestions/opinions.
Subsequently, the final polling booth list will be released on 6th March.’
As per the above list of polling booths, the maximum number of booths are in Teynampet Region and the minimum number of 97 booths are in Manali Region.
As compared to the list of polling booths released in 2019, there has been an increase of additional 45 polling booths!
