Local Elections: 5758 polling booths in Chennai - final voters list released!

5758 polling booths have been set up in Chennai Metro City for the local elections.

The Tamil Nadu State Elections Commission is presently engaged with activities related to conducting the Pachyat elections and the local administrations elections in the newly-formed 9 districts in the state.

It has been emphasised to complete the activities related ward redrafting exercises.

Subsequently, a draft polling booth list was prepared and released on 26th February based on the final voters’ list released by the Election Commission on 26th February.

As per this release. 5758 polling booths are being set up in Chennai Metro City. Out of these, `35 polling booths are exclusive for men. 135 booths are exclusively for women voters. A total of 5489 polling booths was set up facilitating all the voters to cast their votes!

The above list of polling booths with locations has been displayed on the notice boards in all major offices including Ripon Building, the   regional GCC offices, and others.

Following this, an all-party meeting was held regarding the list of polling booths on 2nd March. After this meeting, based on the objections/suggestions raised by the political parties and the public, action was taken and the list of polling booths was revised and released yesterday (Friday, 6th March).

This list was released by the Greater Chennai Corporation Assistant Commissioner and the District Additional Election Official Kumaravel Pandiyan and the GCC Revenue Officer Sukumar Chittibabu.

Assistant Revenue Officer Mahesh and other Greater Chennai Corporation election officials participated in this release. Accordingly, 5758 polling booths were set up. 134 booths are exclusive for men. Another 134 booths are exclusive for women. 5490 polling booths are for both.

With the conclusion of the activity preparing the list of polling booths, the task of preparing the voters’ list is all set to commence today (Saturday, 7th March). The State Election Commission has emphasised that this voters’ list must be completed before 19th March.

Once this activity is completed, the list of draft voters’ list for the local elections will be released on 20th March in presence of the representatives of the political parties.
