During the debate in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on the demands for subsidies for the State Department of Food and consumer products, the state Minister Kamaraj answered for the question raised:
33 Crores Kilo rice is being distributed every month to 19,67,971 family cardholders in the state of Tamil Nadu. Further, an additional 4,51,614 family sugar ration cardholders have changed to rice ration card and procured rice. With this, the state government of Tamil Nadu incurs an additional expense of Rs. 304.56 Crores every year.
2,20,31,394 ration cards have been changed to electronic smart family ration cards!
So far, 70,999 cases have been registered on smuggling of ration items from the year 2011. 48,536 persons have been arrested. Further, 1,122 persons were imprisoned under the Preventive Police Act.
From the year 2011 to the year 2019, 2,150 seasonal list-making clerks and 1,171 weighing staff have been given permanent employment.
Further,330 heirs of employees who died while in service have been offered state government jobs on a mercy basis for the posts of listing clerk, Office Assistants, Security, and Weighing job.
