The drivers and conductors of the buses are in close contact with many passengers every day is a known fact. This could result in coronavirus infection in them also.
The latest news is Metropolitan Transport Corporation or MTC has provided protective masks for the drivers and conductors who operate the MTC buses in Chennai. As a part of Covid-19 prevention measures, as many as 17000 masks were distributed to the MTC bus drivers and conductors on Friday. It must be noted that as many as 8500 drivers and 8500 conductors received the masks.
Cleaning the buses in a fast manner is the need of the hour and for this spraying, gun machines have been distributed to all 34 bus depots in Chennai for cleaning 3500 buses. For those workers who are involved in spraying disinfectants, hand gloves, aprons, masks etc were issued.
It is a habit for many conductors to touch their mouth while issuing bus tickets to the passengers. Information collected is MTC has advised the conductors to issue tickets without touching their mouths. It is said that the branch managers were asked to inspect the bus terminus and they must make sure that the disinfectants have been sprayed and garbage removed.
