Beginning from 6 pm on 24th of March 2020, TN state government has been under the week long lock down till 1st of April 2020 under Section 144 of CrPC is known. This was done to prevent the spreading of Corona virus infection.
The news that has emerged now is this Section 144 in TN would be extended till 15th April. It is known that Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, announced country wide lock down also for a time of 21 days.
As per this order 5 or more persons could not assemble and the order puts other restrictions also imposed by the health department to fight Corona virus. On any violation of the order, the persons would be subjected to prosecution under IPC. This was revealed by the Chennai city commissioner.
On Wednesday, 1st April 2020, Chennai city police commissioner, Mr. A.K. Viswanath, issued an order mentioning about the extension of Section 144.
The lock down has entered the second week now and it is shocking to mention that the number of violations of prohibitory orders under section 144 of Cr PC crossed 40,000. It is important to note that till 31st of March 2020, the number of violations recorded in Tamil Nadu were 39,124 and the number of registered cases were 34,178.
Important information gathered was 38387 persons have breached the orders and 28040 vehicles were seized from the violators. An amount of Rs 14,47,944 has been collected as penalty from the violators. On Wednesday, 1st April, as many as 302 cases were booked in Chennai city.
