Chennai Corporation just a couple of days back rolled out an urban ‘micro’ plan to contain the spreading of Corona virus infection.
Now, the public health experts of the agency that is responsible for Chennai city wanted t extend the programme to all the residents of Chennai. As many as 10,000 volunteers including from self help groups would be recruited and they would be visiting the houses in Chennai.
It must be taken into account that the volunteers would collect information on international or domestic travel history, ask the residents about symptoms like cough/fever an counsel them. This was pointed out by deputy commissioner (health) Mr. Madhusudhan Reddy.
He highlighted that the enumerators would maintain adequate social distancing and by this they would not become sources of Covid-19 infection. Later, he mentioned that the people would be just screened and not tested for Covid-19 and if any person needed to be examined then they would be sent to the nearest urban health planning center.
This door-to-door screening for flu like symptoms would begin from today, Thursday, 2nd April 2020 and it would be carried out in all the 200 wards. By this screening, it would be possible to break the chain and ensure asymptomatic people with domestic or international travel history do not infect other family members especially elders during the lock down.
It is known that on Saturday, 28th March, Beela Rajesh, health secretary announced that the district administrators would demarcate a 5 km radius containment zone around homes of Corona virus affected positive persons plus 3 km buffer zone in 10 districts.
