The traders belonging to the Koyambedu wholesale market are having worries about the lack of takers now.
It must be taken into note that the Corona virus threat and total shut down has sucked the business out of wholesale markets. Many traders at the markets keep their shops open with the hope of customers. Point is these traders throw their vegetables due to lack of takers.
About 25% products that is being shipped from the farm gets wasted due to rotting. This was as per a vegetable trader from MRM wholesale shop. This trader mainly deals with vegetables like large sized brinjals, capsicum, gooseberry etc.
He spoke about how the traders open their shops for the sake of the farmers otherwise the crops would become waste. Koyambedu wholesale market had deserted look because some of the trucks weren’t unloaded. Some persons were involved in picking the good vegetables from the rotten ones to sell those in retail.
It was later mentioned by another trader that government must play their role in buying the vegetables from the traders and store the vegetables in the warehouses and later sell directly to the people. It is now revealed that the market would function as there are no options available.
