The work of converting 110 of the 473 coaches into isolation coaches for treating Corona virus patients in southern railway has been entrusted to Perambur Carriage Works. Since Monday, it has isolated 14 coaches for the treatment of Covid patients.
It is now said that the Perambur Carriage Works have been asked to complete converting its coaches to isolation rooms in just 10 days for the 110 coaches.
Deputy Chief mechanical engineer of Perambur Carriage Workshop, Mr. G. Venkatachalapathy explained about how the work is being done with the available materials and how till now 14 have been completed. He hinted that orders have been placed for the raw materials for taps and nets.
It must be taken into account that work has been workshops have also been done away with the plan to provide 230 v sockets in the bays. He added that reworking the entire electrical lining would have to be done and it would take more time.
