In the wake of a large number of people coming in to buy application for the B.Tech. course at Anna University, 10 more counters have been opened to make the sale. Previously, University had set up 10 counters to sell applications, the total now amounts to 20.
Speaking to reports, Vice Chancellor Kaliraj said, ‘Two and a half lakh applications have been printed this year, 50000 more than last year. This is because around 12 to 20 colleges are newly opening up. I expect a total of 2 lakh seats to be filled.
‘Counselling for Engineering courses will begin on June 21st and go on till July 30th. Colleges will reopen on August 1st. Details for B.Arch. course will be released separately at a later stage. Notices to improve infrastructure have been sent to all colleges. If they do not do the needful, the number of seats would be reduced. Tamil Nadu currently has 552 engineering colleges, out of which 522 are self financing colleges.’
